Center for Autism Research at CHOP: Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) Virtual Workshop

Hosted by The Center for Autism Research (CAR) at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia

This informational webinar, facilitated by the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR), provides an overview of OVR’s mission, services, and role in supporting individuals with disabilities in preparing for, obtaining, and maintaining meaningful employment. Participants will learn how OVR partners with individuals, families, employers, and community organizations to promote independence and career success.

The session will be facilitated by Sharon Silverman, an experienced vocational rehabilitation professional with nearly two decades of service at OVR. Sharon earned her M.S.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling from Hunter College in New York City in 1999. She has worked with OVR since November 2005, spending 7 years as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor and 13 years as a Vocational Rehabilitation Supervisor. Her extensive experience provides participants with practical insight into how OVR services operate and how to effectively access and navigate available supports.

The webinar will also cover eligibility, available programs and supports, and how to connect with OVR services, with time for questions and discussion. This session is ideal for individuals with disabilities, family members, educators, service providers, and anyone interested in learning more about OVR’s impact and resources.

This session will be held virtually. A meeting link will be sent out to attendees the day before the workshop. Registration is required to secure your spot. This workshop is held in partnership with the PASSAGE Program at the Center for Autism Research.

Center for Autism Research (CAR) is based at  Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, with research and collaborations spanning CHOP, the University of Pennsylvania, and other academic institutions nationally and internationally. Their three-part mission is to understand the causes of autism, in order to develop effective interventions and supports through research; to serve the needs of autistic individuals and their family members through education and guidance throughout the lifespan; and to train the next generation of master clinicians and scientists in state-of-the-science best practices for autism screening, diagnosis, and treatment.
