Hosted by Families CCAN.
Planning for your loved one’s future can feel overwhelming. Even after you have set up a special needs trust and secured services, the “to-do” list might seem never-ending. The good news is that there are things that you can work on today to make sure that your loved one will be able to live their best everyday life when you are no longer around. Parents, siblings, and other caregivers are invited to join us this summer for a series of workshops designed to help you take the next steps in planning for the future. Each session will include time for discussion and connection in addition to activities to assist with identifying concrete next steps.
Session 1: Evolving Roles
Monday, June 8th, 7:00pm Eastern
This session will examine roles and relationships— both those that exist today and those that you hope to see in the future. We will tackle questions such as “How do I step back so that my loved one can step forward?” and “How do I start planning for when I am no longer here?” Families CCAN staff will offer practical suggestions for identifying what roles parents and caregivers are filling in their loved ones’ lives and how to pass the torch for future sustainability.
Session 2: Creating A Safety Net
Monday, June 29th, 7:00pm Eastern
In Session 2, we will focus on steps that parents and caregivers can take now to ensure a safer future for their loved ones. We will have an expansive discussion of the concept of “safety”— encompassing not only physical safety, but creating an intentional network around your loved one to ensure that they can live their best everyday life with support when they need it.
Session 3: Building a Sustainable Community
Monday, July 27th, 7:00pm Eastern
The last session in our series takes a deeper dive into creating an intentional community, focusing on your loved one’s roles and contributions in that community. What do they want their everyday life to look like, and how can you start building the supports for that future life today? What can parents and caregivers do to help their loved ones foster long-term relationships outside of the family?
Things to know about this workshop series:
You can sign up for one workshop or all three. There is a discount if you sign up for the whole series (Choose the “all three sessions” option below)
Each workshop will be interactive, and you will be invited to identify and plan for a concrete next step for your family.
Your registration fee for the workshop covers all family members. Members of the same family are welcome to Zoom in from different locations.
For example: Morgan’s parent is zooming in from Ambler, one sibling is zooming in from Chicago, and another sibling is zooming in from Boston. Only one registration and fee is required for Morgan’s family.
Families CCAN empowers individuals of all abilities and their families to create self-directed, fulfilling lives in the community.
