Milestone HCQU West: Sensory Integration Theory: Is It Sensory, Or Is It Behavior?

This presentation reviews what sensory processing is, different aspects of our sensory systems, how it may apply to the adult developmental disorder population, and how sensory integration can be used to improve someone’s self-regulation.

Allison Cole is an occupational therapist who has worked at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network since 2012. Allison specializes in the Outpatient Neuro department in general neuro, neuro vision, the Bridges (Adult Developmental Program), and is the program lead for the outpatient assistive technology department.

Milestone is a community-based nonprofit organization that provides a continuum of support, treatment, and residential and vocational services to individuals with behavioral health challenges, substance use disorders, and developmental disabilities. The Milestone Health Care Quality Units serve 18 western Pennsylvania counties by providing training to developmental disability providers, thus setting the standard for care.
