They are not Mutually Exclusive: Integrating PBS with Psychiatric Treatment in Community-Based Care

They are not Mutually Exclusive: Integrating PBS with Psychiatric Treatment in Community-Based Care by Stacy Nonnemacher, Ph.D., and Michael Murray, M.D.—a focus on coordinating care across disciplines.

Hosted by HCPBS.

This session will challenge the notion that behavioral support will only work if and when someone is psychiatrically stable. Unique perspectives from a psychiatrist and a behavioral practitioner will be shared to emphasize the importance of synergy to optimize available resources. Presenters will share case studies highlighting strategies and coordination of care emphasizing the need to consider medical, emotional, and social well-being in Positive Behavioral Support. The session is guided by the principle of not letting your pursuit of perfect get in the way of good – it’s a missed opportunity.

Goals of the presentation: 1. Participants will understand the importance of the case formulation process to guide medication choice and evaluation of efficacy. 2. Participants will gain insight to increasing impactful interactions between traditional psychiatric care and positive behavior supports.
