What is Discord?

A server is an online space or “room.” For example, there could be a server all about “videos games” or one for “students.” Each server can also have multiple channels. This means you could have different areas to talk about different topics.

There are multiple options for talking to others in these rooms. Some can be text only or have voice messages or video sharing options. Users can also direct message and send friend requests to each other. This allows you to talk keep in touch without using a server. Some of these rooms can be open to anyone who uses Discord. The person who creates a server can control who’s able to join the group. The creator can also choose what they’re able to do and what channels they can join. Creators can even create roles for members. “Roles” are like ranks or duties. These roles can be assigned by the creator or sometimes members can pick their own roles. Members with a role stand out from other users. Members with a role are also able to do different things in the group.
