Several counties throughout the commonwealth have created their own form to notify emergency responders that an individual with autism lives at a particular address. It is important for emergency responders to be made aware of who lives in the home, any sensitivities than an individual with autism may have and the types of behavior the responders may witness so they are better prepared to safely handle the situation.
When confronted with an emergency situation, individuals with autism can become overwhelmed and frightened which may cause them to react to the situation in a way others cannot understand. ASERT has come up with a PLAN that will help the individuals with autism, their family and emergency responders stay safe in an emergency if they Prepare, Learn, Advise and Notify.
Please check back regularly for updates on emergency notification forms. If you do not see your county on the list, we recommend contacting your local law enforcement agency for more information.
