Understanding Barriers

A mother and her son sitting on the floor.For many parents of children with autism, participation in a home-based behavioral intervention program may seem overwhelming. In addition to managing and advocating for the child’s various services, parents may find it difficult to attend to the needs of other family members, their spouses, and their jobs. Participating in their child’s home-based program can certainly seem like one more responsibility for which there simply is not enough time.

This article provides guidance for professionals on how to engage family members in interventions in the home.
