Visual Schedule Resource Collection

Below are a few resource links that describe the use of visuals in a classroom and provide examples of how to implement them. These examples are primarily in an educational setting but can be applied in the home and community settings as well.

These resources can get you started, but you can likely find resources that fit your specific needs by searching YouTube or Google for “visual schedules in the classroom.” No-cost picture icons used for educational purposes can be found using Google Images (for example, try searching “free icon lunch time”). TPT, TeachersPayTeachers, also offers some free (and other low-cost) resources. Subscriptions to icon libraries are available, a few examples being SymbolStix Prime, Boardmaker, and LessonPix.

• Individual Visual Schedules
  • This YouTube video, developed by Philadelphia Autism Instructional Methods Support (Philly AIMS), provides information on what visual schedules are, how to prepare for and implement daily visual schedules in the classroom, and visual schedule strategies for various student levels. This resource was created by the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

• Visual Schedule Series: First-Then Schedules
  • This article, written by a clinical psychologist with experience as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, provides information on first-then schedules that could be used by caregivers and professionals working with individuals who have autism. The resource includes free examples and firsthand accounts of what works in the classroom and the needs of teachers or students. This resource was created by Autism Classroom News and Resources.
