Hosted by the Pennsylvania State Police.
This unique concept called Sunny Day Camp, was the vision of a Pennsylvania State Trooper, Samantha Minnucci, in 2016 as a way to promote good relations between police and children/adults of special needs. Cpl. Minnucci wanted a program where no one would be left out of learning about the law-enforcement agencies that serve their community.
The event is free, but registration is required for the participant and accompanying family members, or caregivers. The below website includes upcoming camp dates, locations, and registration information.
The one-day event includes demonstrations by the police K9 Unit, Bomb Squad, and SERT Team. There is also a static display of a police helicopter and other emergency vehicles. There are games and a DJ. The event concludes with a formal graduation ceremony. Lunch, snacks, and a Sunny Day T-shirt are included.
The Pennsylvania State Police was the first uniformed police organization of its kind in the United States. Today, the authorized complement of the Pennsylvania State Police is 4,740 sworn members. More than 1,850 civilians serve in a variety of roles throughout the department.
